So . . . hi there! Remember the last time I blogged, when it was the cover reveal of FRIDAYS? And that was September? And the time before that, when it was June and I was talking about Summer Reading? And then how I totally didn't follow up with that like I always do? Now, I know that you kids today with your Twitters and your Snapchats are so much into the blogging, but I do like to yammer on about my reading and writing and all that once in a while, so bear with me!
I've been just a teensy little bit busy the last couple of months. I had some places to go and some things to do. I talked to some nice people about writing, and some other nice people about books. And I went to Kansas and Texas. And Salt Lake Comic Con. And Walt Disney World. (The last one was strictly for fun. And it was. Very fun.) And in-between that I've been working on a couple of books. Namely SATURDAYS, which I will finish today, and send off to my lovely editor at Bloomsbury. And then I will continue gutting and reworking STOLEN CROWNS UNTITLED BOOK #1, which I need to get to my other lovely editor, at Random House, ASAP.
So, you know, the usual.
But I did manage to read some books. Not as many as I'd hoped, but some good ones. I wanted to read 55, but only read 52. Waaaah, waaaaah.
But I did read some great books. For one thing, I managed to get the kids hooked on both Paddington (reading all four books) and Daniel Pinkwater. They loved FAT MEN FROM SPACE, and LIZARD MUSIC. They weren't as keen on THE LAST GURU as the other two, but GURU is my favorite and always will be. Then I discovered one of his more recent books, THE EDUCATION OF ROBERT NIFKIN, which I loved, but is a bit more YA, so I kept it to myself for now. I read J. K. Rowling's VERY GOOD LIVES, which was inspiring, and REFLECTIONS: ON THE MAGIC OF WRITING by Diana Wynne Jones, which I would like to require all writers to read. I read FINNIKIN OF THE ROCK and ONE CRAZY SUMMER, and FALLOUT, ELEANOR & PARK, and I AM PRINCESS X. I discovered Brian K. Vaughan's SAGA (which is STRICTLY FOR ADULTS) and BOXERS & SAINTS, which is YA and tragically beautiful. I reread IF I STAY/WHERE SHE WENT, WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE? and WE SHOOK THE FAMILY TREE.
If you want to completely see what I'm reading and get all my thoughts on it, I highly recommend that you friend me on Goodreads, if you haven't already. Goodreads is my favorite place on the internet. I love to make book lists and rearrange my virtual to-read shelf, and comment on other people's reviews and write my own!
And now winter is almost upon us, and it's time to settle down and think about Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the wonderful world we live in. And the wonderful books there are to read and write in the coming weeks and months! Ah, the holidays! Hooray!
